Dear readers,
On the season finale of Born This Way, the gang celebrated the long-awaited wedding Angel and Christina. Over the last few seasons, I have seen so much growth in her as an individual as well as a couple. They each have taken classes in order to learn the necessary skills of housekeeping and cooking. Their story gives me more hope for my future in terms of my love life -although it is squarely in God's timing and hands. If it can happen for her, it can happen to me too!
But Christina is not the only one becoming more independent, they all are in different ways. For example, Rachel and Megan moved in together briefly, Jon is persistent about learning to drive a car and so much more.
One reason I think everyone enjoys this show is that it is relatable not only to the general audience but to those with disabilities as well. I can relate to this show because I understand how hard it is to keep your independence; yet, it shows the internal struggle between mother and daughter of letting your child go and leaving the nest. I've seen the struggles between Meg and her mother and understood them so well.
In looking at YouTube, I realize I am not the only one who was disappointed with how the season played out over four weeks. I mean eight episodes- two episodes per week .. You have got to be kidding me... Being disabled, I for one know there has got to be a lot of new material they didn't use for the show. But that's my rant. Hopefully, that leaves more material for next season! Fingers crossed. Anyway, at least they have a new one-hour special coming up highlighting what it's like to be deaf. It's entitled deaf out loud and airs next Wednesday at 8 PM. If you missed this season finale, it still can be found on A&E on-demand or on fire TV

To Joey, With Love: Official Trailer

Let me start out by saying I'm not a big country fan, but I can't believe I missed out on this amazing love story between Joey Martin and Rory Feek. Yes, I heard about her death, but was completely unaware about the underlying story of their daughter Indiana, having down syndrome. This couple faced to battles and came out with a stronger faith than ever. Though Joey died, her story lives on in the lives of her husband and daughter. Born This Way Season Three Premiere
Welcome Back Readers-
I am happy to report that Born This Way is back for its third season on A&E. After two seasons, the series has been begun to change peoples' views on those with disabilities; this is evident by the show receiving a Emmy for Best Unstructured Reality series, ending the two-year streak of The Deadliest Catch. This season holds changes for the whole gang- including a budding romance for Stephen and Megan, a independent living opportunity for Christina. How will the parents cope? I don't know, but I can tell you from personal experience that learning to let go of your children and see them fly and come into their own can be the most difficult thing. The series airs on Tuesdays at 10 PM.

Born This Way: Season 2 Official Teaser | Premieres Tuesday July 26 10/9...
Dear Readers,
It's hard to believe it's been four months since my last post. During that time, I've had Botox for a second time, continued with therapy, and enjoyed the rest of my summer.The therapy went well; I succeeded in getting enough extension in my left arm to get a Seabo Stretch device. This allows me to keep my arm stretched for extended periods of time without the assistance of someone. Right now, I am up to three hours a day in the splint. The only downside being, I am limited on how much I can do while I'm in the device. Ultimately, the goal is to start wearing the device at night.
Sadly, this treatment for CP (like many others) is only temporary. It has to be repeated every three to six months in order to maintain elasticity and stretch of the muscles.. That leaves me with the age old question: What's Next? At this point, I really don't know. I just know I don't plan on making Botox a routine event on my schedule. I had hoped that this treatment would be maintainable over time but as my doctor puts it my flexibility is like that of a rubber band- the muscles can be stretched, but the reality is they will always return to its bent position (unless they are constantly stretched). Otherwise, surgery may be my only option.
Still, I am doing my best to live a life without limits. Just like the young adult cast of the series "Born This Way". Season 2 of the series airs Wednesdays at 10 PM

Born This Way: Official Series Teaser - Tuesdays 10/9c | A&E
Welcome Back Readers~
Sorry I haven't been updating this blog as much as I'd like; I've been trying to get my resume back out there and see what new employment opportunities are out there for people like me. It's hard though when you have limited capabilities and can't work outside the home that easily..
Anyway, I recently came across a new Arts and Entertainment (A & E) reality show featuring a cast of Down syndrome adults trying to overcome stereotypes by living as normal life as possible. In this series, audiences will hopefully gain a new perspective on the struggles those with down syndrome have and; it will also highlight their perseverance as they strive to live independently, get married and pursue their dreams!
I will definitely be watching and cheering them on; I hope you will be also..

Where Hope Grows Official Trailer 1 (2015) - Danica McKellar Movie HD

Premiering May 15th, Where Hope Grows centers around the unlikely friendship of former baseball player and a grocery clerk with Down Syndrome. Starring David DeSanctis and Kris Polaha, this movie attempts something different by giving a person with a disability (Down syndrome) a protagonist role while showing the realities their trials they struggle to overcome on a daily basis.
"I had no idea what it was going to be like working with the down syndrome community. David really shattered any stereotype I had," says Polaha a Hallmark Home and Family interview.
Down syndrome occurs to about 1 in 1000 babies each year; despite this, many are able to read and write. In fact 20% of people are able to do paid work. This just proves that you can't judge a book by its cover.
"It's taught me just to when I see someone with down syndrome just to walk up and treat them with dignity and respect," says Polaha.
When DeSanctis was asked about his friends reaction to the movie, he just replies ".. That all of my friends came up to be and said 'you're my role model'
Apart from the message of hope and redemption, David hopes that his lead character reminds parents to allow their children to pursue their dreams.
"... Just make the impossible be possible!"
Since I have a close family friend with down syndrome who just happens to work at a grocery store, this movie strikes a chord with me as well. Stay strong,Tyler. You don't know what a positive impact your positive and persevere spirit is having on those around you!
